I consider myself an emerging artist even though I used to dabble in various art forms for quite a few years, mainly focusing on pastel painting. For the past two years, however, I have dedicated a much larger proportion of my time to my art practice and have been doing acrylic painting, mixed media paintings and printmaking. Despite not having a formal art degree, I have learnt a lot of important principals and techniques independently and feel that my eye is well-attuned to what makes an artwork worthy of one’s attention. My style is abstract (or semi-abstract) and contemporary and I am guided mainly by my intuition when I start an artwork. I tend to veer towards quite bold colors but this isn’t always the case. I am fairly experimental these days and tend to avoid very representational artworks. In the past year, I have achieved a couple of awards (a highly commended for a pastel painting and first prize for a monoprint) – this has encouraged me to keep experimenting and continuing to produce inspiring evocative art. |
